Mother's Day

Well this was an unusual Mother's Day. I took the kids to McDonalds and let them run themselves ragged in the germ place. I mean play place. Then we spend a whopping 10 minutes at Joanns, 2 of that was picking out coloring books for being good. Then we had ice cream and went home where the kids took a bath and went to bed. Yes, that is right, they had ice cream for supper. I am that good of a mother. My 4 year old said we should go there every day. Greg had to work, so it was all me most of the day (he works 2:30 to 11 on the weekends.)

Then today I got my first flowers from the kids. Nora brought me three dandelions with the fluff blown off and said "what's this mommy? From me!" I had to laugh, how adorable is that? She's been so good with the potty, only a couple of accidents. One while I was helping the UPS man bring in the 15 rolls of fabric he delivered this morning and wasn't there to get her to the potty in time.

I also decided today to dig out my 35MM pentex camera. I didn't buy it, it was found in the laundry room of our house a few months after we moved in. We have no idea how to find the old owner and I really doubt he ever used it. It's a surprisingly good camera for how old it is. I loved it for a while until we got a digital. Our neighbor works for Pentex so he got us a really good deal on a very expensive little pocket sized digital, which I thought would blow the old manual out of the water. Apparently I don't know anything about cameras. It's taken me lots of reading and time to realize that it's not necessarily me that suddenly can't take pictures, it might just be the camera! Nothing ever looks in the picture like I see it in my head, like it used to with the manual. Someday I plan on buying a good Nikon D60, but for now I will go back to the manual and return to the basics. I found it a couple of days ago while looking in Nora's closet for another picture and suddenly remembered how much I loved using it. I'm excited to buy film again, maybe I'll post a picture of that awesome handbag I got today!

Happy days!

What a great few days! I got flowers today for Mother's Day. I'm not usually a big flower person, or a big mandated commercial holiday person, or even a surprise person. Heck, I buy my own gifts and just tell Greg what he got me. I figure he shows me how important I am and how much he loves me all the time, why put such pressure on him on the certain days that Hallmark demands? So the bag (which shipped today, yay!) was my Mother's Day gift.

But the flowers were a total shock, and came from my stepfather of all people. It was so much more meaningful because it was so random. Lee isn't a touchy feely kind of guy so to get flowers from just him was really amazing. It felt so nice! I'm going home to visit in a few weeks and it made me even more homesick.

I also had a great business meeting today. I was at school last week in line for my post test burrito and overheard someone else talking. It was so weird, I just heard one word and my ears perked up. Turns out it was someone I have been looking for a long time, and the meeting today was a big "aha!" thing. I'm feeling like things are taking their own natural course, which is really odd. Okay, I know that whole paragraph is cryptic, but I don't want to say too much right now. Plus, this isn't really a work blog so I'm trying not to fill it with work.

I also had a picnic with Nathan at his school today. It was nice to spend some time with just him. With two other younger kids at home almost no one gets one on one time without an act of congress. It's so nice that he is still not too big to sit on Mom's lap and snuggle in the middle of his school. His friends ran by and he didn't want to go play, just snuggle with his Mommy. Soon he'll barely want to talk to me, and I really cherished today. He even let me take a rare 15 minute nap later in the day (after bribing him with Super Hero videos of course.) Shipping rates go up on Monday so I will be up very late tonight. I guess I should stop messing around!
